Volunteer

Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay (ASEB) has a dedicated and creative staff behind its nationally recognized programs. However, like many nonprofits, our resources are often not equal to our needs and the needs of our participants. Volunteers may choose to be a part of one of our day care programs and work directly with participants, they may choose to help with administrative work, or they may choose to help with site maintenance.

Day Program

Our centers in Berkeley and Hayward have enjoyed the strong support of many volunteers over the years. In the day center activity room, volunteers help in a variety of ways; by providing one-on-one attention to participants, assisting or leading activities, or preparing materials for art projects.

Volunteers may have some experience, or be training to go into the field of aging or health care. But everyone has something to offer. Individuals with musical skills are always appreciated. Musicians with guitars, accordions and even the Berkeley Jazz Band have played for our participants—the love of music, it seems, is something that is not so easily forgotten! Of course, just spending time with our participants provides everyone with a rich experience

The only requirement for our volunteers in our day program, other than a willingness to make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia, is to pass a TB test.

Administrative Help

ASEB also benefits greatly from those who volunteer time to give general office support. When there is a project such as sending out over three thousand pieces of fundraising letters, ASEB appreciates the volunteers who help with the task.

Site Maintenance

Help with maintaining one of our sites is always welcome. Over the years, volunteers have helped with everything from painting our buildings, building decks or planter boxes, and gardening. We have a need for many kinds of labor—skilled or unskilled.
